Protega Coatings takes its name from ‘protego’, the Latin word meaning ‘I protect’. The majority of the coatings manufactured by Protega are designed for the protection of steel and other metals, whether from the effects of corrosion, abrasion, fire or other adverse conditions.

In January 2005, Protega’s parent company bought the complete UK interests of Tikkurila Coatings Ltd from Tikkurila Oy, who are based in Finland. In March 2005, the formation was announced of two new companies, specifically designed to service the needs of the two key UK customer groups of the former Tikkurila Coatings Ltd. Protega Coatings Ltd supplies a portfolio of major, high volume, UK industrial paint users. Many of the coatings supplied to these major accounts have been specifically designed for the particular requirements of that individual customers’ line or production process.

Prospeed Coatings Ltd focuses on the needs of a wide customer base and supplies a comprehensive range of coating types. Prospeed also actively supports the Temaspeed network of paint distributors in the UK. The Temaspeed network is the largest paint distributor network in Europe and is growing at a dynamic rate. Protega Coatings are a major manufacturer of coatings for the OEM Industrial markets, including ACE, Drum and General Industrial, as well as to the Protective Coatings steel protection market.
